Intellectual
Like most superheroes, the origins of my scholarship trace back to my childhood. In primary school, I was introduced to superhero comics. I was also raised to put a premium on being respectful toward and thus thoughtful when interacting with others. And while, like many kids, I made irresponsible decisions from time to time, the foundation for integrating respect for persons, thoughtfulness, and superheroes was being laid.
Fast forward to my young adult years, where college courses in philosophy, developmental psychology, moral development, and research methods opened my eyes to the possibilities of an interdisciplinary academic career centered around moral development and superheroes. The rest, as we say, was history.
Professional
Aside from teaching as a Graduate Student Instructor, my professional career started in earnest with an Instructor position at Bethel University (Arden Hills, MN) in 2014-2015. After completing my dissertation that summer, I took a Visiting Assistant Professor position at Whitworth University (Spokane, WA). After three years, my position was converted to a tenure-track one (Assistant Professor), and I have been tenured (Associate Professor) since Fall 2023.
