Hydroland: Aftermath Sampler (2012)

One of my favorite hip-hop albums is PeeDee’s The Rhetorical Mixtape. With the possible exception of “Let Your Kettle Pour” (as I am a stickler for a good hip-hop intro), “Nemo” is arguably my favorite song on the album. In it, he describes an oil spill in the ocean from the perspective of a fish. I interpreted the song as a metaphor for sin’s destructive nature, and was intrigued by the idea of sin having the characteristics of a virus.

As I was working on R-Squared Comicz at the time, my immediate thought was to make a comic! Thankfully, my friend, a fellow comic creator, Melchizedek Todd, was excited about my comic pitch, which focused on five survivors of an underwater civilization trying to rebuild after an alien entity destroyed it. Although we never completed the one-shot, we were able to put out a Hydroland: Aftermath sampler. It includes story information, character descriptions and sketches, additional artwork, and the opening 4 pages of the comic.

Enjoy, and check out Mel’s Weapon Press comics.
