Pathways (2014) with Takeia Marie

The premise of the comic is simple. During my doctoral program attending church in Berkeley, CA and living in Oakland, I became interested in the idea that, at least to me, it seemed like there was an emphasis on inviting people to church on a given Sunday (rightfully so) but not so much on what it may have taken a person get to church on that Sunday. So Pathways explores just that. Set in Oakland, CA, and within the Lightweightz universe, it shows the different journeys, or pathways, four individuals take to get to the same church on a given Sunday.

The Story of Peter: Faith (2013) with Earnest Graham

This comic is a collaboration between myself and the amazing Earnest Graham. When I came across his work and once I finished geeking out, lol, I reached out and pitched him the idea of creating a comic based one of the persons in the bible I resonate with the most, Peter, he was all on board. So much so that he was willing to draw it for free! Please support the amazing work he does, and we hope you enjoy!

Lightweightz (2012-2013)

This was my flagship title, and the impetus behind the creation of R-Squared Comicz. I was inspired by a comic I enjoyed reading, The 99, which explores the lives of various young people throughout the world who receive various abilities Muslims attribute to Allah. I wanted to do something similar in a Christian context, exploring what it would mean for a group of teens to develop abilities that in some way relate to the gifts and different manifestations of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:7). The twist is that each of the abilities are geared toward helping the teens relate to and understand others better.

Collision (2014)

In 2012, I came across some Romans 8:31 concept art that featured Hulk and a young boy. I was immediately fascinated with the idea of having superhero abilities “collide” with scripture, and after pitching the idea to comic illustrator Mike Abuan, Collision was born. Check out this amazing compilation of Mike’s skills applied to 11 different conceptual pieces, including superheroes such as Rogue, Daredevil, Green Lantern, and Lucas Bishop. One of the most fun projects I participated in.
