Pathways (2014) with Takeia Marie

My working relationship with the amazing Takeia Marie goes back to 2011. Her professionalism, support, and talent are second-to-none, and I was fortunate to have been able to work with her. What started as commissioned artwork for one of the Lightweightz characters, Kayin, turned into a collaboration on Pathways years later. Make sure to check out her work.

The premise of the comic is simple. During my doctoral program attending church in Berkeley, CA and living in Oakland, I became interested in the idea that, at least to me, it seemed like there was an emphasis on inviting people to church on a given Sunday (rightfully so) but not so much on what it may have taken a person to get to church on that Sunday. So Pathways explores just that. Set in Oakland, CA, and within the Lightweightz universe, it shows the different journeys, or pathways, four individuals take to get to the same church on a given Sunday.

R-Squared Comicz is no longer active, so I have made the comics I used to sell available for free. Maybe I will pick things back up in the future. We’ll see. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so below.

We hope you enjoy!

Pathways

What if we understood what it took for someone to attend church on a given Sunday? Set in Oakland, CA, and within the Lightweightz universe, Pathways shows the different journeys Omar, Samantha, Miles, and Stacey take to arrive at the same church on the same Sunday. A collaboration between me and Takeia Marie.
