Imitating the Saints (2013) by Adam Barkman

When

I read this in the summer/early fall of 2022.

Why

As I dive more into my interdisciplinary scholarship, I have become more interested in academic theological approaches to superhero media. I have been fortunate to find recent opportunities to explore intersections between theology/Christian philosophy, moral development, and popular culture. Published examples explore Batman and The Walking Dead, and in-progress projects explore Daredevil and the X-Men.

How

I am so glad to have found this book, as it was one of the most intellectually engaging analyses of superheroes from a Christian perspective that I have read. It informs and “walks alongside” much of my thinking in this area.
